What are MX records?
MX (Mail Exchange) records are part of DNS configuration that specify which mail servers are responsible for accepting email for a particular domain. When someone sends an email to your address, the sender's server first checks your domain's MX records to determine where to deliver the message.
Why are MX records important?
Without correctly configured MX records, your domain cannot receive email. Incorrect MX records can result in lost messages, delays in mail delivery, or complete email failure. If you use email marketing, correct MX records are a prerequisite for recipients to be able to reply to your campaigns.
How do MX priorities work?
Each MX record has a priority value - a lower number means higher priority. The sender's server first tries to deliver the message to the server with the lowest priority number. If the primary server is unreachable, backup servers are tried in ascending priority order. Having multiple MX records ensures email delivery reliability.
